Ferdinand Hayden Chapter Annual Meeting

Wednesday, January 16th, 2013 - 2:30am to Wednesday, January 16th, 2013 - 4:30am

Come engage in a conversation with leaders from Trout Unlimited and the local Thompson Divide Coalition working on this important issue. Aaron Kindle,Colorado Field Coordinator for Trout Unlimited and Zane Kessler, Executive Director of the Thompson Divide Coalition, will present.

You have probably heard the words “Thompson Divide”. You may have read some press about proposed energy development that could occur there. But what is all the fuss about and why is Trout Unlimited involved?

The Thompson Divide is a wildlife mecca, providing some of the water of theRoaring Fork Valley’s best fisheries. It also provides drinking and agricultural water for the valley and grazing areas for local ranchers. Additionally, there are few places left in Western Colorado that provide ascritical of a stronghold for wildlife in the region as this 220,000 acre wild land sanctuary.

The potential threat to these values and the possibility of altering the long standing and sustainable recreation-based economy have many people curious about what the future might hold for this special place.

What can be done to ensure the area’s vitality if energy development does occur?
