Chapter March Meeting

Wednesday, March 13th, 2019 - 7:00pm

We are so pleased to bring Langdon Cook to Missoula to speak about catching wild salmon across the Northwest.  In his book Upstream, Langdon traverses the far-flung corners of salmon country in search of some of the last great wild food sources on our menu.  Coincidentally, he fishes a lot! His presentation follows the journey from his book research, from spey casting for the world’s largest steelhead to to trolling for tasty spring chinook.  Cook wrangles high country sockeye in Idaho and takes off into the urban jungle, fly fishing for humpies and silvers within Seattle city limits!

The people he meets- commercial and tribal fishermen, sport anglers, scientists, environmentalists and restaurant chefs- are as compelling as their beloved catch. Upstream and Lang’s presentation reveals the tension between nature and civilization, and reminds us how closely our fates are intertwined with this miraculous fish. Lang has also authored two other books, including The Mushroom Hunters: on The Trail Of An Underground America. All Lang’s books are great reads and will be available at the program.
